DESCRIPTION:
WW - Rolex Oyster Speedking Kew A Chronometer, ref 5056, circa 1948, 30mm x 45mm to lug tips, 17mm lug width, original stainless steel screwback Oyster case with smooth steel bezel, later added stainless steel riveted Oyster bracelet, original silvered dial with applied Arabic numerals, 18J cal 720, mvt s#4274, case s#62950, triple signed with signed clasp, inside back ref 5056. One of Rolex's rarest models as only 137 pieces passed the rigorous 45 day testing period the Kew Observatory required. This watch also has the added distinction of being one of only nine that received the "Especially Good" rating, gathering over 80 points. Included with this watch is a copy of the Kew timing certificate from July to September of 1948.
CONDITION:
Mvt: Running, fine-plus cosmetic mvt condition overall, very light oxide to steelwork, light tarnish to plates, fine scratches near detent screw; fine dial with ample surface spotting, fine scratch near center; nearly mint blued steel hands; polished case shows light wear, several small dings on case back; bracelet shows very light wear, light stretch; original signed crown shows little wear, good threads; good plastic crystal; resealed for auction.
